Do you happen to have Kylie's UK sales for her albums?

Sadly not, I tried looking at UKMix but the topics were too vague. Someone estimated though that she sold 7.865m in total and was the 34th biggest selling album act of all time - http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=40562

There are other topics like this, but not that much use, nobody did a full breakdown of the sales - http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32993

From this topic of the top 110 selling albums http://forums.madonnanation.com/index.php?...ic=4086&hl= we have the following sales

KYLIE - THE ALBUM - 2,105,698

FEVER - 1,682,387

I think the only other one over a million is Enjoy Yourself, which is probably about 1.2 million at the most. I read here that Body Language outsold American Life, so that's over 300K, but it won't have sold much more than AL.

There was a lot of M publicity around December 2000 - DTM single, wedding, i think she did a free show for 300 ticket winners courtesy of BBC Radio 1, AND i believe she did an interview around this time with Johnny Vaughan

I can't see how AP helped sales of Music all that much- it already had been a single months prior to the album release. Music and DTM were the main catalysts behind the album's sales- plus, in a weird way, she may have benefited from all the press regarding the wedding in late 2000 (it had some great sales during December of that year- holida sales helped, as well).

i doubt the are anywhere near 2 x platinum. Rhythm of love was released in Nov. 1990 and only spent about a max of 10 weeks on the top 40 and even then probably not more than 4 weeks in the top 20. I dot think it even re-entered when the follow up singles were released.

enjoy yourself was released in oct. 1989 - after a no1 and no2 hit and just a month b4 a 3rd release. in jan 1990 she released the final single from EY and that slipped off the charts quick.

Rhythm of Love only went Platinum :gross:

But I think it's odd cause when I see the chart stats they're all so high...you'd think it would be like 3x platinum..

Better the Devil You Know #2

Step Back In Time #4

What Do I Have To Do #6

Shocked #6

Same with Body Language, it was only Platinum.

Slow #1

Red Blooded Woman #5

Chocolate #6

Are these albums close to 2x platinum or something?

especially for you is considered a million seller right? it got a boost in sales because of the xmas period and it was no2 for about 3/4 weeks and then it went to no1 for 3/4 weeks - it was not on any album until 3/4 months later ttoo. you bring backmemories the whole scott and charlene romance was just so big back then. and suddenly...... i love that song.......I CANT BELIEVE IT WAS ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO! are we getting old or what?

i think the following kylie songs had multiple weeks at no2 - got to be certain, locomotion, je ne sais pas pr quoi, especially for you, hand on your heart, would nt change a thing, tears on my pillow which moved 2-1-2-3....,better the devil you know........not sure about giv me just a little more time and any of them after....

kylie sold more than true blue? DAMN! but then again kylie is constantly promting each release religiously.

That's when Kylie started to have a drop-off in sales, before WDIHTD ALL of her singles were top 5 (top 4 in fact, with nearly all top 2 - she had the best start to a chart career back then, till Boyzone and Westlife overtook her). In general, apart from early on and with "Fever" she's not really an albums chart act or strong album seller. Strong singles seller certainly. I think people tend to underestimate Kylie's impact now and forget how big she was, but at the time she was a phenomenon (in cold sales anyway).

She had great help by being on Neighbours of course, which was absolutely huge in the UK with viewing figures of 20 million, and she happened to be a big factor in that with her character Charlene, who with Scott was the golden couple and at the time of her wedding the top 3 was full of songs related to it - including that wretched power ballad wedding theme "Suddenly" by Angry Anderson and of course SAW capitalised on it by pairing her with Neighbours co-star Jason Donovan to recreate the romance on "Especially For You".

She was the best-selling female artist in the UK of the late-80s, she even won Woman Of The 80s on that special end of the 80s show which angered me no end :manson: since they seemed to only take into account the last 2 years.

I started following the charts in 1988 and I remember all of her singles then were top 2, some debuting there which was a record at the time (Hand In Your Heart would have been the first single by a female to debut at no 1 if cassette single sales had been took into consideration and were part of the chart rules then, Mariah later became the first with "Without You") and if they didn't go to no 1 they spent 4 weeks at no 2.

She does have some impressive chart stats - look at everyhit.com and you'll see:

Also, Kylie was the 5th best selling album of the 80's and the biggest one by a female artist (Whitney was just behind at no 6 and True Blue was at no 9). A Kylie loon harped on once that "Kylie has outsold all of Madonna's studio albums" and yes turns out he was right with the figures on that album poll. Thought TB might have sold more in the end with catalogue sales, though Whitney did overtake it.

The La La La song also sold more than a million and Especially For You almost did a million too, more than any Madge single. Then the big shock was that Fever also made that all time 100 best sellers and outsold ROL. Surprised at that. But Madonna is way, way ahead overall.. nobody comes close.. you'd have to take into consideration the album chart to determine the distant no 2 female.

M was getting a lot of publicity around the Summer of 1990 - BAT, Dick Tracey and by then 6 solid top 5 songs in a row. HP was quite a hit on radio.

If the jump was at the same time as a single release that would explain it - there can be pretty steepclimbs in the Uk album charts when a single is released especially with airplay.

I gather that BAT helped HP achieve its No. 2 ranking. :) Then again, anythign she put put out at the time was almost a guaranteed smash.

No ideas why LAP jumped 26-9 that one week?

a very weak and poor selling no1 - i think better the devil you know outsold it tha year and that hit no2. sinead knocked her off - they both entered the same week - NKOTB were at no1, kylei entered at no2 ad sinead no 30-odd. kylie climbed to no1, sinead's nothing compares 2 u climbed to no3 from lower regions and ....you know what happened next i guess :p

tear s onmy illow never boosted enjoy yourself much if at all.

According to this it sold pretty well, especially in the middle of the early months of the year...it sold as much as a lot of other #1s that year.

never seen the sales stats for it before. sold quite well for that week but still only managed to be 34th best selller - one of the lowest selling number 1's that year - being outsold by loads of non-no1's and those released very late in the year.

TIC is closing up the gap with the albums above it FAST!

From UKMIx:

In November 2006, The OCC revealed the UK's Top 100 Best Selling Albums.

The 2008 OCC Calendar reveals the Top 12 Best Selling UK Albums - with Sales added, to a date somewhere in late 2007. The Calendar has each of the Top 12 Albums Pictured on each Month. The No.1 Best Selling Album, (Queen), is January 2008, down to the No.12 Album, (Shania Twain), being shown for December 2008.

(I am not sure of the Calendar's 'cut off' date - for the 12 Albums - as yet).

None of the Top 12 Albums has moved since November 2006, although all have increased their Sales.

Here are the Top 12 Albums - with their up-dated Sales - as revealed in The OCC Calendar. I show how many their Sales have increased by - since November 2006 - in brackets. As I said - the above Sales do not include all of 2007, as The OCC needed to get the Calendar Printed. They may not include any Sales for December 2007 - for example - the biggest Month of the Year, for UK Album Sales.

Position - Album - Artists - Sales To Date (Increase)

1) Greatest Hits (I) - Queen - 5,538,000 (130,413)

2) Sgt. Pepper..... - The Beatles - 4,880,000 (68,004)

3) (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis - 4,354,500 (39,785)

4) Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits - 4,052,000 (95,296)

5) Gold - ABBA - 4,013,500 (69,050)

6) The Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd - 3,890,000 (108,007)

7) Greatest Hits II - Queen - 3,694,500 (49,881)

8) Thriller - Michael Jackson - 3,607,000 (28,893)

9) Bad - Michael Jackson - 3,567,500 (13,199)

10) The Immaculate Collection - Madonna - 3,541,000 (138,840)

11) Stars - Simply Red - 3,369,500 (8,385)

12) Come On Over - Shania Twain - 3,350,000 (5,720)

---

TIC should jump over Jacko's 2 albums some time next year. Although Thriller is re-released, probably it will count as a separate edition for charting purposes.

If that upcoming GH isn't an expensive box set it will destroy TIC's catalog sales.

You think?
