Jailed Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny dies, prison service says

    • Jailed Russian opposition figure and outspoken Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny has died, the Russian prison service said.
    • Navalny’s spokesperson said his lawyer is traveling to the Siberian penal colony where Navalny had been serving his sentence. His mother said she had just seen Navalny for a visit this week, and he was "alive, healthy and cheerful."
    • Navalny made global headlines when he was poisoned with a nerve agent in 2020. The Russian opposition figure was sentenced to 19 years in prison in August. He was already serving sentences of 11-and-a-half years in a maximum security facility on fraud and other charges he denied.
    • World leaders have reacted with shock and sadness to Navalny's death, with US President Joe Biden saying that if the reports of his death are confirmed, "make no mistake, Putin is responsible."

Politics aren't my strong suit but I follow things every now and then and lurk here from time to time.  Some of my thoughts presently:

Hillary took a lot of states in the old rust belt area for granted in 2016 : Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.  It looks like at the moment Biden isn't polling well at all with the Hispanic vote.  A group that always votes democratic. That one 1st poll I posted below even has Trump leading against him presently with this demographic.  I do not think he should take the Hispanic or really any working people's votes for granted but I have the feeling he is.  If you're living paycheck to paycheck and feel overworked most days you're not going to want to listen to Democrats harping on about democracy and January 6th.  That day was bad but the reality is it doesn't keep the majority of Americans up at night with what they're concerned about.

Interesting article as well imo.  Ruy Teixiera's author of Where Have all The Democrats Gone.  He touches on identity politics presently.

I really don't understand (and this seems to be the case in every country) why it's always 'not understanding a certain demographic'.. If you're living paycheck to paycheck and you vote for a clown ur still a retarded fucking idiot.

It's more baffling to me how the right always manages to attract a certain portion of the public and gets them to vote for them against their own socio-economical interest, based on ethical and cultural issues.

It's a shame the company is no longer on the stock exchanged as I'd love to see the effect on the share price.

I'm expecting it to return to Twitter at some point. It's such a strong brand and X is nothing.

Oh and I just saw a news headline that threads has lost half its users already!

    It's called threads?!?

Far right in Sweden. What to expect but horrible provocative performances to create tension and harvest votes from racists?

Sweden is weird it seems... when I was in Prague for a seminar this Swedish guy had this alarm going off on his smartphone and I asked him
what it was about and he dryly responded: 'A person with foreign looks has been spotted hanging around the school (back in Sweden)' :manson:

I had to ask him three times because I didn't understand... meanwhile his other old fart countryman was harping on about Benny Ulvaeus once
telling his wife she was good at playing the piano... he told the story about 7 times. Anyway I faked being sick and went to my hotel room.

I don't feel it's for me to judge other religions. I don't agree with it and it would be very colonial of me to go there and say they should change their ways to what I believe.

    I'll just go to Brighton.

It is not colonial. Religion shouldn't legitimize discrimination based on gender or sexuality.. If more people would judge these ideas instead of the usual 'their religion says...' the world would be a better place.
