  1. CASE CLOSED

He may not be Madonna, but Sander Kleinenberg’s new single has certainly made a splash. After weeks of speculation, the Dutch dance legend was revealed to be the artist behind the mysterious disco-infused single premiered last month. Ushering in a new musical chapter for the veteran artist, “We-R-Superstars” will be released on Spinnin’ Records later this year.
Listen to the full premiere of the single and accompanying music video exclusively on CODE

  2. Someone posted this on another site - you can see what Anna H. originally said at the bottom of the image (her first quote IS strangely prophetic  ). Although I can't be 100% certain it's not M, I don't think it's her track. Probably just a sole Sander Kleinenberg song (the recent Radio 1 plays have all but confirmed this, although I don't know why they are still withholding the name).

Tomorrow will be ONE MONTH since the original Billboard article (posted May 16th) so guess they will reveal who it is tomorrow. See here.

  3. I've just realized that the original Billboard article was written by Matt Medved, who according to his Twitter is Billboard's Electric/Dance writer (freelance I think), which would add credence to this being just a DJ a la Sander Kleinenberg. :(

    What a SWIZZ!

What a bizarre marketing strategy though - Billboard should have fanned the flames before this spiraled out of control. They didn't have to reveal exactly who it was, but they could at least put out a quick Tweet saying something like "this is a DJ, not an artist".

And BEGGED for the clip? Really? Dance LEGEND? Mystery SUPERSTAR? Withholding his name in the first place? Favoriting only Madonna-related Tweets? :rotfl: How very, very ODD.

Oh well, we'll see next week for sure. I still maintain it's a great track and would be a smash hit for whoever.

And 61 pages (including 36 in the first thread) HAS to be an MNation record for discussion about a (if it turns out to be) a non-Madonna song!

  4. That doesn't explain anything. That interview was posted on July 12, 2013 (see here). All articles on that site show today's date for some reason.

We already know that the song WAS his, but it didn't get any exposure so he's most likely sold it on... It's even got a tacky new title, replacing "ARE" with "R" (I wonder who would do that )

And the "[he's a] true superstar in every sense of the word" is just a play on the name of the Ibiza club night which closed last summer anyway.

  5. DANCE LEGEND Madonna. I mean, that's the biggest insult right there. Who do they think she is ? Stacey Q?

A legend in the dance world is Tiesto or Carl Cox or summat, yeah a DJ.

It's just a meaningless term that could refer to anyone frankly. There are other more important clues in the original article.

They've used the exact term "dance legend" to refer to Sylvester in the past, and "dance artist" to refer to Jessie Ware, M.I.A, and Lady Gaga, all four of which (I presume) don't know how to use a turntable or mix records. Click links to see receipts.

  6. ...could We R Superstars be Sander Kleinberg & Nile Rodgers feat. Madonna, Pharrell, Michael, Prince, Lenny, David Bowie, etc... ?

Wouldn't explain the Spinnin' Records thing though. And as Kim has said above, I doubt he would use a track from nearly 2 years ago - he would start from scratch.

At least there was a link to Spinnin' Records via Madonna (albeit a TENUOUS one) if Avicii's on the label.

I'm still leaning towards the clip being her, just because the original Billboard description could really ONLY fit her in my opinion (it's so very wink-wink nudge-nudge who's in VOGUE  etc.) Throw in the Pete Tong connection, and Sander favoriting the tweet that suggested it was M's single (out of ALL the Tweets, why favorite that one?), and all roads point to M.

But then again it could be ANYONE. Who knows for sure?

One thing I really doubt though is Sander Kleinenberg duping Radio 1, Billboard Magazine AND DMC World Championships and getting them to hype up his own track. Billboard surely check their facts, and the whole "we begged this artist" thing wouldn't make any sense at all if he randomly got them to make a big song-and-dance to further his own career. If they did MAJORLY fuck up and got duped, at least remove the clip from their website to avoid any further embarrassment.

And why would Spinnin Records use 'ID' to withhold Kleinenberg's identity? For what purpose? Yes he could have signed with them for all we know, but trying to use Billboard to hype the track would suggest some kind of upcoming GLOBAL launch for a relatively unknown DJ. It would be a very bizarre marketing strategy for someone who is 43, been working since the late 90s and still hasn't managed even a minor hit anywhere.

  7. To piggy-back on what loowee has just said above. Taken from:

    http://www.dmcworld.net/features/entry/buzz-chart/buzz-chart-2014-06-05-62

Disco is back! in the day Buzz but who is the mystery superstar?

It's clear both Billboard and Spinnin' Records are referring to a household name, and not a DJ here.

    - -

So, if this instrumental has been around for almost two years, perhaps it's the backbone of the track or some kind of sample?

The only thing that is puzzling is the dog imagery which was used both on the YouTube/Radio1 still, and on Sander Kleinenburg's Facebook, which suggests this is an older concept than I first thought.

  8. so.. as someone else suggested.. maybe we should find a stream of the BBc programma to hear what they had to say BEFORE playing the clip!

If the YouTube video was posted on the 3rd, and the clip is from Pete Tong's Essential Selection, it would have aired the previous Friday (May 30th). You can only stream shows from the previous 7 days on BBC iPlayer so it's been deleted now. :(

Quite astonishing how no-one has picked up on this before now (well over a week later), despite the constant discussion about the original Billboard clip...
