Strange with the ONSLAUGHT of Jackson news coverage today, Madonna's name is popping up a lot more then I ever thought it would.
Chris Moyles said this morning on his Radio 1 show that she's the only one who knows what he went through because that enormity of fame was only ever experienced by the PAIR of them. Loose Women (I have a day off, don't judge me) referenced her as the "female" Michael Jackson and that epithet has been repeated A LOT on the 24-hour news channels and blogs.
Her tribute is of second importance on both Sky News and BBC News after Lisa Marie Presley, but I suppose this will change when Obama releases something. Only theirs, Brooke Shields and Jermaine's are ever really mentioned. I find that strange because those three at least have had a real personal relationship with Jacko. Was this because her statement was the most emotive? The "can't stop crying" quote is the most evocative of any of the statements any celebrity has released and deviates from the standard "I am very distressed and wish his family well" types. Others here have said it doesn't seem heartfelt but I digress.
From an American perspective, Anderson Cooper on CNN name dropped her about six times but that might more about him being a GHEY. Perez Hilton has featured her quote prominently, the only celebrity he's picked up on. Is it because she's 50 as well and the dichotomy of him being frail and mentally confused and she is sprightly and toned?
Or is it just because of the enormity of her fame? Poor Janet hasn't been given one mention from what I've seen and as his SISTER, she's going to be hurting far more than Madonna. Maybe the "King and Queen of Pop" thing is just a nice piece of language and adds a different slant to the story. On NUMEROUS YouTube tribute videos, people have written "Madonna is all alone now". The picture of them at the Oscars made one of the free London rags you find on the Tube. As I work in the news, I find it interesting how these memes develop. When the news broke last night, she was the last person I thought would have gotten free press.
And on sidenote, like I said in another thread, who appointed Jo Whiley as MJ's UK spokesperson? Like her incoherent ramblings are of ANY importance? Get that cunt off our screens.

They should shelved this ad OR change the wording.
Mr. Breathless = Michael Jackson
I'm sure this is not a mock or they did it in purpose 'cos MJ's death announced AFTER this.
I strongly believe Madge will wanna do some changes.
:lmao: What? Are you on medication?

The television guides are OUT. All mention the performances Vogue, Ray of Light, Like a Prayer and Don't Cry for Me Argentina. If the reports suggesting a few performances will be cut so people will buy the DVD are true, we'll take it these will definitely be in.
The broadcast runs from 9pm to 11.30pm, so allowing 15 minutes for the pre-show and the standard 14 minutes of commercial per hour block, that leaves 100 minutes of footage running time. Does anyone know the full running length of the Buenos Aires show? Just trying to gauge how much will actually be cut.
The broadcast will be in HD AND subtitled so you can sing along too.
I'll be getting a crate of wine in especially for this broadcast. I have good faith in SKY that they will present this well.

Josh, "Frozen" was at the center of a copyright suit- some guy said one part had the same melody as his song, or something like that.
Posted on Wikipedia:
On November 18, 2005, a Belgian judge seated in Mons ruled that the opening four-bar theme to "Frozen" was plagiarized from the song "Ma vie fout le camp", composed by Salvatore Acquaviva of Mouscron. The judge subsequently ordered the withdrawal from sales of all remaining discs, and forbade any further playing of the song on Belgian TV and radio under wide protest of the Belgian population. "Frozen" was a chart topper in Belgium and widely popular. Many radio and tv-stations and their audience stated that "Frozen" was loved, while the supposedly plagiarized song was unknown and disliked. The judge also ordered Warner, EMI and Sony to publish and spread the decision within fifteen days to various media outlets on pain of a penalty of €125,000 for non-compliance with the court order. No damages were granted.[1][2]
The Belgian radio station Donna held an Top 5000 music chart program from 17 November to 12 December 2008. The song "Frozen" reached place 143, however because of the legal status of the song it could not be played. The radio hosts asked their listeners to watch the music video on YouTube, while there was approximately 5 minutes of radio silence.

:lmao:
Took me a while to work out what you were referring to but that triggers a lot back actually. Anyone have the video of this great rendition by Sinitta?
-
Is that when they had the Kathy Burke narrated special?
You know, I'm not too sure. My long-term memory has been destroyed by the delights of alcohol.
I remember there was the "There's Only One Madonna" special around that time on BBC ONE. That was the one where they followed four fans as they travelled to Barcelona for the opening night of DWT. Little did three of them know they would have to be sharing a hotel room with the delightful Michelle Budd. I would have complained to the Beeb about cruelty if I was one of them. But that might have well been narrated by Kathy Burke.
The one I'm talking about featured chronological clips and snippets, year by year, in order, interspersed with Madonna's only UK interview at the time, after she initially turned down Parkinson. That definitely had a male voiceover.

Just like the Miles Away video... TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE.

UPDATE From the SKY Press Office:
Madonna: Sticky and Sweet (1 x 120”) features the iconic star’s greatest hits and songs from her latest studio album, Hard Candy. The controversial, record-breaking tour, recorded at Buenos Aires’ River Plate Stadium in December 2008, features four sections ‘Pimp,’ ‘Old School,’ ‘Gypsy’ and ‘Rave’ and has won universal praise with The Times remarking, "In the premiere league of song-and-dance spectaculars, the queen of pop remains unrivalled and undefeated." Madonna: Sticky and Sweet was directed by Nathan Rissman (Madonna’s “I Am Because We Are”) and is a Live Nation Production. Julia Stuart, Senior Acquisitions Executive brokered the deal with XXX at Media Push. The deal also gives Sky1 the rights to a special 15 minute behind-the-scenes film to be broadcast alongside the tour, giving fans an intimate portrait of one of the world’s most enigmatic stars.to the 15 minute pre-show too!
-
FUCK YES!!
to SKY! Prefer if they broadcast it commercial free on one of their Box Office channels (I'd happily pay a tenner to watch, especially if they did a pre-show) but beggars can't be choosers. Wonder if this will be available on one of their HD services?!
Ratings will be SHITE but they weren't exactly impressive when the CT aired on network television. Think figures were around the 1 million mark.
Anyone remember when DWT aired on Channel Four as well, it was part of their "Madonna night" if I recall (or was that a separate event?). Back when she was at the top of her game post-Music. Television schedulers who BALK at that now.

I think the whole thing could have been slightly salvaged if they had shaved his mop top off or just cropped it very closely, rather than trying to glue the whole thing down with engine grease and will-power.
:lmao:

Thanks PTT, as always. Always nice to find out the charts on Sunday but I can't stand that TWAT Fearne Cotton and her "countdown" on Radio 1.
My, oh my @ ABBA Gold STILL selling. Any particular reason this time?
-
Too little, too late.
TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE.
-
The confusion actually originates in the Attitude interview.
The names of the tracks are:
-Broken (I'm Sorry)
-Celebrate
They just misunderstood what Oakenfold said.
-
What's the big deal? I know a couple of lads who work for Attitude, including editor Matthew Todd who carried out one of the greatest print interviews in Madonna's career when COAD was released. These song titles are real. They secured a short phone interview with Oakenfold about unrelated projects. Just happened he mentioned these new tracks so they got a bit of an exclusive. Who knows if they will make the upcoming greatest hits; that's Madonna's decision, not his.

MILES AWAY is INCREDIBLE.
Should have been the video.

A video with Jesus would be a PR MASTERSTROKE.

"Heartbeat" is not as theatrical as "SNM" but I do think there's definitely a concept going on in it. At first they change her shoes and all her movements are set by the other dancers, she keeps stumbling as if she was a doll, but after the "see my booty get down" part it's like she breaks free (even alluding to the lyrics), pushes all the dancers away and the rocks the stage. It might be a bit of a stretch, but since the segment is supposedly about her early days in the Old School NYC, it can be interpreted as the start of her career, when she learns how to "dance and sing" or something like that (or more radically, a reference to those who consider Madonna a "pop puppet"?), coincidentally one of her breakthrough hits follows this performance (which is definitely a nod to her pre-Madonna-era music through the arrangement), then "SNM" could represent her various change of looks and images throughout her career but still telling the critics that they are all just acts and "she's not me", eventually being "saved" by the music (and the DJ, as the sample says), still being on top of her act etc.
I know it's not like her usual Act 2 stories, but I think it's still nice to see that the songs aren't just thrown next to each other and even if it's one of her most fun and lighthearted shows, there still might be some hidden hints or messages.
That's why I think replacing either HC songs with "Holiday" would mess this concept/flow up, but if it's "Dress You Up" replacing "Borderline" with the same arrangement, it won't be that big of a change.
VOICE OF REASON.

EXCELLENT.
Only flaw - they should have had a close-up when she sticks the mic down her crotch. Apart from that, PERFECT!
