  1. The part at the beginning of vogue where she whips her leg onto the hand rail is everything!  And there are certain parts where I was curiously reminded of keep it together performance on blond ambition.  Is it the outfit, or the way she stood or talked?  I don’t know, but it was glorious.

  2. If she had just put out a straight narrative where she went to a club and was caught in the midst of a massacre, that would have already made a powerful video (and probably all most of us would have expected).  But then she goes ahead and tells the story backwards and frames it with dark haired Madonna, it’s just genius. This is the reason she is peerless.

  3. Slant review mentions that Killers lyrics could be in part inspired by the poem First They Came.  Madame X is a teacher indeed.

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me

  4. Madonna has never given us a bad album.  She has only made bad songs.  Her albums, even the worst of them, are never disposable.  And when she is on, nobody can touch her.    She is infinitely more interesting than every other wannabe because she by nature is both the prom queen in the spotlight and the punk kid on the fringe.  That duality just bleeds through her collective work.
