Are you serious? Have you ever had a loved one die?

I have. A lot of people don't necessarily take time off work because of the death of a loved one, and since Anderson's show seems to be airing as usual (coupled with the fact Mensch implied M would be a guest) I thought he wasn't taking a break. I will stand corrected - I guess they're showing reruns or prerecorded episodes, so my bad!

  2. I'm not too crazy about AL or Future for Pride. I can live with I Rise although I don't think it adds much value to Madame X.

    But.

People who are saying she should do a string of fun hits because Pride is a celebration and a party are forgetting something.

Pride may be a party now but deep down it's a political protest. No matter how much fabulous, champagne-fueled fun people have there now, Pride is, at its core, a demostration against the establishment and a cry for freedom. There is still a lot of work to do until LGBTQI+ people have reached equality, and the fight goes on. That's what the Pride movement is all about, to this day, behind its glittery surface.

So for a Stonewall ambassador to choose political, even angsty songs for the setlist is perfectly in tune with the event, especially considering that Stonewall happened 50 years ago.

Whether the songs she chose serve this purpose well is another story.

People who bitch about her controversies only bitch about them because they can't be that creative and get their point across as effectively. And it would never be bitched about if she were a man.

That's a very good point, and just as valid today as it was in 2002 (AL and M aside, would the Dixie Chicks have faced the controversy they did if they'd been the Dixie Dudes?) If Childish Gambino or Kendrick Lamar did something like this they'd be praised. Oh, wait, they did something like this and they were praised.

It's impossible to imagine Mambo's living male (or female, for that matter) peers like Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John doing anything of the kind as they're busy making money off ancient hits on endless farewell tours, but one can only imagine the reaction David Bowie would have received if he were still alive and released a video like this. He would be showered in praise and seen as a courageous genius. Which is exactly what he was, but being male he also got the credit for it.

That said, let's wait and see what happens. I'd like to think the world is ready to respect M for tackling the subject of god gun control through her art rather than rip her to shreads.

I think we're just getting ahead of ourselves here.  The album isn't due for another couple of weeks.  I think for now she's letting a few performances, radio interviews and songs to get the ball rolling an then the week of the release, more interviews and such are coming out.  Right now, she's still on the tip of our tongues. She's teased us for the last month, so now the full assault will probably start the week of the release.  I don't see the point of making a lot of appearances and doing a lot of interviews when the album isn't available for another few weeks. I suspect a lot of video filming she's been doing in the past are only going to start being released once the album is released and maybe throughout the summer when she is in full rehearsal mode.  Let's remember, she did a lot of filming for her MDNA skin care line months in advance and sometimes we weren't sure if it was for a music project or the MDNA line until months later when they were released.  I think we just need to be patient and enjoy the era as it rolls out.

Wouldn't we know about at least some of those interviews and other promo commitments included in the assault by now though?

I saw the video when it was uploaded by accident and my favourite bit was so subtle - I hope it stayed in the edit.

When Swae says (the first time) "It's on the line girl you're risking everything" - M does this knowing vulnerable look as if to say "No shit, Sherlock". It's very sweet but it's blink and you miss it. I hope it's still in there!

That moment made the video for me too.

It's interesting that she chose to play it safe at the Super Bowl but not Eurovision. She clearly did not see it as a similar situation.

I believe Eurovision taking place in Israel instead of Indianapolis played a part.
