In case anyone cares... Here's a super quick history lesson on Afghanistan and why this is so infuriating to me and just goes to who you how absolutely messed up the west / current superpowers are:

    1. Afghanistan was a peaceful, developing and sovereign nation. Just as an example, this is what women there used to look like in the early 70s:

Afghans Share Their Views on the West's Influence - The New York Times

    2. The Soviet Union invades Afghanistan in 1979, stages a coup and installs a Communist puppet government.

    3. As is tradition and as Cold War history has taught us, the US decided to prop up a group of religious fanatics in hopes of freeing the Afghan people from the evils of communism, so the US, through (not so) secret CIA operations, stages their own coup and helps put into power who they called "freedom figthers", aka the mujahedeen, (and who later transformed into the Taliban). This included sending weapons, financial support and all forms of military intelligence to leaders such as Osama bin Laden

Here's a picture of Reagan meeting with these brave freedom fighters.

    800.jpeg

    4. The "freedom fighters", backed by the US and Saudi Arabia, launched a several year war, and by 1989 successfully toppled the Soviet-backed Afghan communist government.

    5. Afghanistan quickly falls into a civil war due to the power vacuum this created, where several of these small militias fought for control over Afghanistan. Note that by this time the Soviet union had collapsed, so US, who was responsible for this, instantly lost interest and essentially abandoned Afghanistan and let them fend for themselves.

    6.  Pakistan (a US ally) and foreign al-Qaeda fighters, mostly from Saudi Arabia (the US' biggest ally in the region after Israel), join the fight in Afghanistan, win the civil war and install their new, horrific government. They call themselves the Taliban. Mind you, absolutely nobody helped Afghanistan during these years.

    7. Sep. 11 happens and the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Italy, New Zealand, and Germany invade Afghanistan. (Side note / rant, In short, the mess of not only allowing these religious monsters take over an entire country because of a mess that the west created, but actively creating and arming them, and helping put them in power because clearly that's better than communism, is why Sep. 11 happened in the first place. Then the west comes in as "saviors" to help liberate the Afghan people only after it affected us, but this is just a side note that I could go on and on about...).

    8. To summarize the rest of this mess, these countries put into power corrupt puppet governments, raged the longest war in recent history, loses and are once again abandoning the country, leaving them in shambles and allowing these monsters who were not even Afghan to begin with take over.

    9. Stay tuned, the west will once again invade them in the future and say we are liberating them and saving them from themselves, and help spread DEMOCRACY. I mean, we are already angels for allowing a tiny percent of victims into our countries as refugees...

Thanks for posting this, Ulizos... More of us care profoundly about what's happening right now ( and previously) than the media have ever, or will likely ever recognise.. its not only incredibly upsetting to witness these current events. But, desperately frustrating and angers many of us to see the same errors in judgement, rhetoric, and strategy being made over and over again........ And all at the expense and suffering  of so many, who deserve so much better than they keep being  subjected to and forced to tolerate.

I think you are exaggerating the leaks effect. How many people can go to the deep web, search and download a zip archive with leaked tracks? 5000? You have to be a BIG fan to do that. There is no way that 1 million of people or more are doing that. Sounds like a huge and delusional excuse for an album that didn't resonate with the gp. Let's be realistic.

You could be right re the leaks not having a huge impact on sales.   However, the 18-20 million illegal downloads of Rebel Heart which put M in the top 5 most illegally downloaded albums of 2015, does prove that the GP  still has an interest in hearing what she does, even if they're not paying for the luxury of doing so ...:0)

  3. Yup... Im getting out of here too... Whilst I don't echo comprehensively all of what Across the sky has stated.. There is an insidious element here that I was warned about before registering, that is distinctly obtrusive and counter productive to the justified musings of other members...

Having primarily sat back sat and watched how things ran here for the first few weeks, it becomes very clear, very quickly that there is a collective here who want things their way, all the time..... Expressing any perspective that doesn't sit with the paradigm that this collective thrive within, appears to get you spat on from a great height, hit with their diatribe, ridiculed, or in the case of "Cmoody" yesterday, called out and humilated publically. That exchange, that was then followed up with support from other members was wholly inappropriate.

Interesting to note that I`ve yet to see anything posted by these members that actually brings anything productive, constructive or amiable to this forum.

Thank you to all those that I`ve engaged with here, that have conducted themselves with civility.. I know some of you are on other forums, so I`ll no doubt catch you again.........

As I donated to this site yesterday, which im still happy to have done, hopefully those that deserve it will obtain some benefit from it..

    Ciao......... ;).

  4. Its not to do with money Junkie.. Its about being up front and centre and re-igniting interest for the long-term, primarily with the come n go fans ... Its clear that in recent years her audience has become that of mainly hardcore fans ...

Irrespective of peoples perspective on the kinda promotional shows she could do, they have an immediate impact because of their collective mass audience, all in the same place at the same time.. You only have to go onto iTunes 20 mins after a performance on a show like BGT or XFactor to see how those performances translate into physical sales of not only that song but of the back catalogue n greatest hits etc. ..

I completely agree that a few extra quid from sales is not the main objective, but what it does do that online media doesn`t is get a mass response from the right demographic at a time when people can act on it and purchase. And that presence has all kindsa positive side effects when it comes to maintaining an awareness for her music in the minds of those who mighta strayed....

Do I wanna see her have the kind of impact again now that she`s had so many times before across a broader spectrum.... Definititey.. Being on top gives ya more opportunities to take more chances, push buttons and be experimental and that's the Madonna that inspires me.....

  5. Absolutely, she should secure tv appearances on certain shows......Got nothing to do with getting over it...... Its about exposure and keeping yaself in the headlights.....keeping the album on the mainframe of charts for longer than a few weeks... A bit of longevity.. And just because no one else is promoting that way... which is a complete broadstroke cause they absolutely are......Doesn`t mean that going back to basics as another tool in the strategy won`t pay dividends.........

  6. Well, people are bound to revert to historical content, me included, all the time nothing new n concrete is out there to discuss.

Some of us are new here and haven`t had the opportunity to read through the past 2 odd years of posts on the subject.. Its a bitch, but better that posts are being added rather than nowt hitting the boards.. keeps thing's ticking over... So add something new n productive to the discussion rather than critiquing what`s being said by those who wander off topic during the wait for new info.....!

  7. Absolutely agree..... Im hoping for more cohesion with this album....... Her best albums are the ones that flow seamlessly, with a less eratic choice of track listing n direction....

Whilst the debate for HC and MDNA will go on till the end of time, its clear that the emphasis this time around needs closer analysis and a return to leading the crowd and not emulating it.. Although I concede there were still touches of genius on both of the aforementioned albums.

Despite my lack of enthusiasm for MDNA, It still has 3 of my all time favourite M tacks from her on that album in Masterpiece, Im addicted, n Love spent..

Kinda Ironic that for me personally she got it so right with those tracks, yet It was the first album (in its entirety) of her career that I couldn't connect with. But, putting a positive spin on it.. I do think it brought on board some younger fans that didn`t have M on their radar before, so maybe it served the exact purpose it was intended too eh..!.....

  8. I think G O will have had to re-think his strategy after MDNA.. Is Madonna really gonna sit back and not push for the best possible means of exposure this time around .. I don`t believe that she`s no longer interested in chart positions and sales...Ultimately , anyone who records music, wants it heard and appreciated by as many people as possible. Plus, they need it to be in order to secure future interest in tours..... I don't accept for a second that she would allow or chase a repeat of the MDNA marketing structure.. She sure aint stoopid. One mistake, is one mistake too many......

She has to much at stake to let G O not push this album hard n fast.. If indeed it was his idea and not M`s the last time around......

  9. Anyone who writes off M or thinks that she cant have another No1 , or sell shit loads of albums is assuming way too much.... Don`t ever underestimate her... Media and fans alike have been doing it for 30 years and she`s still way ahead of the game in so many ways.

Because she is like no other in her field, she can push harder and ensure this new Era is just as strong as any of the other peeks that she`s attained.....

M, is a true one off.. Unique.... No one compares to, or has achieved what she has.. She is the marker for everyone who follows a similar path.. But they will never exceed her track record, both artistically, or in terms of sales, and she still has it in her to hit a home run again....

In order to keep people hooked on the past you have to provide a bridge from the future, So the new music has to have some staying power and be authentic Madonna.... When M is on her game, no one can touch her....!

I still believe it comes down to two things, re M getting huge sales and No 1 records, (whish I feel is still attainable all over Europe); and that is, the music has to be quality. Substance over style......!

"Classic Madonna and Innovation" The two ingredients she`s used time and again to produce music that reminds the public and her diverse collective of fans just how versatile, tenacious and talented this women is...

The promotion is paramount.!!!!!!......... If she can`t get her music on the radio, then she needs it all over the TV... Talk show performances, X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing.. BGT whatever....!.... As long as there are big audiences getting the opportunity to re-connect with M and the music is accessible, she will sell........

Anyone who believes she doesn't need Both of these things in order to secure future bums on seats at concerts is way off the mark....... Even Jesus Christ would need across the board promo if he showed up tmrw with an album to market... .. .
