2 Alabama lawyers say 12-year-old rape victim shouldn't have right to have abortion
wo Alabama lawyers opposing a court decision to allow a 12-year-old rape victim to have an abortion spoke out Wednesday, denouncing the ruling in a press conference they held in Montgomery.
According to AL.com, Win Johnson, conservative legal director for the Administrative Office of Courts under former Chief Justice Roy Moore, and Lorie Mullins, Executive Director of COPE Pregnancy Center, are arguing that granting the 12-year-old victim the right to have an abortion violates state law and she was not mature enough to make a decision of 'life and death'.
Outrightly attacking the appeals court's decision and the 12-year-old girl, the pair said the decision should not be left up to the child as the law doesn't grant her to "make her own decision about whether or not she wants to drink" or "drive a car."
On the other hand, many have called the lawyers' comments "harmful" and "disturbing", stating that the 12-year-old's choice to not become a mother while still, herself, a child is her right and the circumstances justified a waiver.
On July 19, the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals upheld a juvenile court's ruling that granted the unidentified child to have an abortion without parental consent.
A 15-page opinion written by Judge Scott Donaldson also stated that a relative of the 12-year-old girl had been charged with statutory rape after it was found that he had raped her repeatedly and got her pregnant. The appeals court also noted that the girl had been subjected to physical abuse and neglect by her mother and that the girl and her four siblings had been removed from her custody five times. The child and her siblings have now been placed in the custody of the Department of Human Resources.
Alabama law does allow for a waiver from a state law requiring that minors get parental consent before an abortion if the juvenile court finds that "the minor is mature and well-informed enough to make the decision on her own" or that "the abortion would be in the best interest of the minor."

in my young career, I really have seen some ridicolous trials,
Â
but this one is may be the biggest worst ridicolous one. A organisation is sueing in the name of an animal. Animals dont have copyrights thank god to our legal system and we dont see such joke trials.

Teens who taunted a disabled man as he drowned and filmed his death were under no legal obligation to help him, experts sayÂ
Â

The 16 yo should be punished by law actually. But in the US the youth criminal law must be different to european and also inbetween the US states. At least some arrest should be possible. Will follow this case

A 32-year-old man drowned in a lake as a group of teenagers laughed and filmed him, video footage released by police appears to show.
Jamel Dunn, of Cocoa, Florida, died after wading into a fenced off pond following cries for help which went ignored.
Brevard County State Attorney’s office released the video to Florida Today, and said that although the incident was a "tragedy", the young people involved in the video do not appear to have broken any laws.
The teenagers, thought to be aged between 14 and 16, can be heard laughing behind the camera as the father-of-two shouted for help, before he disappeared under water.
One shouted: “Get out the water, you gonna die.” Another can be heard saying: “Ain’t nobody fixing to help you, you dumb b***h.”
Another teen asked his peers if they were “scared to see a dead person” as a scream is heard in the background. Moments later one announced “he just died”, before the rest erupted in laughter. They left the park shortly after without reporting the incident to the authorities.
Yvonne Martinez, spokesperson for Cocoa Police Department, said: “He started to struggle and scream for help and they just laughed. They didn’t call the police. They just laughed the whole time.”
His fiancĂ© had reported Mr Dunn missing, and a family friend notified the police after finding the video online.Â
The teens were later identified and questioned by detectives, though it is unlikely they will be charged, given that they were not directly involved in his death. "Good Samaritan"Â laws cannot be applied to the case, police said.
In a statement released to Florida Today, the State Attorney’s office said they were “deeply saddened and shocked at both the manner in which Mr Dunn lost his life and the actions of the witnesses".
“While the incident depicted on the recording does not give rise to sufficient evidence to support criminal prosecution under Florida statutes, we can find no moral justification for either the behaviour of persons heard on the recording or the deliberate decision not to render aid to Mr Dunn," the statement added.

This is not the first time that United flight comes negative in press.

Omg! The fact it died out in the 30ties is horrible! I hope they ll find a way to revive it?
Thats sadly impossible. As far as I know there is no intact DNA of this animal in order to clone it.
I mean there were several animlas who died in the 19th century like the bird Dodo .
Sadly animals like Elephants in Asia or Afrika are in danger too. Thanks to the safari shoot activities for rich people

Thats really good news.
Wish they could save the thylacine aswell. It was a very beautiful animal, especially the zebra-like back of it

Obviously the refugees would rather live in their home land in peace, without caught on mid-fire in a civil war, than live in camps in Turkey...
still beter to live in turkish camps than in muddy greek or french camps.
