Totally agree with what you say.

And I understand what you mean, @San, but in the end, I'd be curious to see how it was "science" related. It looked more like an wealthy ego-trip to me. I might be wrong, though.

In the end, all this story is pretty sad. We say they probably didn't suffered and I hope for them it's true.

I'm not saying this was a science expedition, but that there were three people on board who study the titanic and/or explore the ocean depths generally, all dying doing what they love and are passionate about. They would be clear on the risks as this was their life's work. I doubt the other two 'tourists' had any idea of how imminently dangerous this was.

  2. Really unfortunate news. If death was always the ultimate outcome, I think it better for this to have happened rather than sitting there for days wondering if and when you will die.

The legitimate scientists/explorers on board died doing what they loved and understood the risks. For the curious wealthy, they probably didn't really appreciate the risks despite signing waivers. We sometimes follow people who are knowledgeable and assume that all will be OK. A fatal mistake here.

This sort of risk taking in the name of accelerating innovation is not new and they do it because they can, operating at the fringe outside of mandated regulations. You can take risks that affect only yourself, but dragging others into it who couldn't possibly understand what could happen is wrong.

Some of the coverage of this is painting a simplified picture of the technical aspects which is annoying. People read Xbox controller and assume this fact makes it all dodgy, when in reality it is perfect for its purpose, with the US marines/military readily using such game controllers in their own submarines and other activities because they are intuitive to use making operation safer. The comparisons to well established and understood submarines, which are immensely different to these deep sea submersibles, only travelling down as deep as about 500 m (not 4000 m +), is also ridiculous. The key problem here is the lack of certified testing for the most important and critical aspect of the vessel, and that is the pressure test - absolutely crazy when you understand the consequence of not being sure is catastrophic, which any basic risk assessment would have shown and which should have been made explicitly clear to any passengers.

The technology was so innovative that it was navigated by an Xbox controller and had no windows.  These people are goners.

It may seem simplistic to you to put people down at those depths without being crushed to death and to be able to communicate, but it just isn't. Countering hydrostatic pressure is unfathomably complex and any microscopic defect in the pressure seal of a vessel would be catastrophic. You laugh about windows, but it would be an absolutely game-changing technological feat to be able to accomplish our idea of a tourist vessel that can view the depths of the ocean. The xbox controller for purposes other than gaming is not new or unique to this vessel - it is quite versatile and useful.

I really hope they can find them. What an unimaginable horror to die this way.

    @Leebf @San 👏👏 loving this. NSW well done 👍

    Yay! 🙌

What a relief! I was kind of expecting this, but you never know in NSW...very conservative and/or greedy in most parts. Chris Minns means well and I hope they can deliver their promises while being good economic managers because that's always the element that seems to lose Labor elections.

Almost entirely Labor across Australia ❤️

First it was the car accident (where we wasn't the driver), then it was the stupid conspiracy theories around the stairs he fell down where he fractured his spine and broke ribs in 2021, then it was the fact that he is 'too arrogant' to be Premier and all the made up media stories about how much Victorians hate him (a very loud minority do because of the drivel they have been fed by the media, and only their views were amplified by the press). All of this crap on the front page of every newspaper and in all news bulletins every day for weeks before the election.

I heard about that stair-gate bullshit! They were taking the piss out of the story on ABC news Sydney last week :lmao:

:inlove::clap:  So proud of the state of Victoria who completely ignored one of the most vicious, nastiest and biased media campaigns ever by the Murdoch press and overwhelmingly re- elected Labor.  Murdoch's paper and sky news were relentless in their attacks on Dan Andrews and the Labor Party.  Australia now has completely rejected the conservative party in virtually every state.  NSW has their election in the new year and it suggests Labor will romp home there as well.   @San @swimtoshore @Creepy Insane Person  @Bitch I'm Christian @Leebf @cardiganstarlet @Michael. @xtaticboy82and @Paul- I bet you are all happy.  Murdoch is getting rubbished everywhere on line and his influence in Australia is truly over.   @Kim  I know too how much you detest Murdoch and this was such a great result.  Australia has become such a progressive country.

It's great news for sure @Jazzy Jan 👏🥰 Though I'm still sceptical about NSW...there are a lot of dip shits about

Kim and Karbatal, I love how they are now doing their “honest government’ political satire skits in the UK and the USA too now. They are so clever and funny. Plus frightening spot on.  Every point they always make is true. Do you love their attempt at English accent 😂 so proud of them.

The scomo shoutout in the credits :lmao:

The Libs are crazy if they think Peter Dutton will bring people back to them.  He is one of the reasons so many Lib supporters turned away from them in disgust.  They need to get away from the far right, not put more of them into power.

I hope they do...and bury themselves in the process!

    Fools :rotfl:

Why do so many Australians hate labour?? I don’t understand. I’m talking about the general voters as well. Do they only want a government that favours the mega rich?

Well, they don't hate Labor, but they don't unanimously love them either. They haven't gained much this election. The liberal party just lost so spectacularly which was mostly gained by the greens and independents. And I'm glad it has worked out this way. Had Labor been more aggressive on climate change and tax reform, I think that would have scared enough liberal voters to stick with the LNP. Having independents that are aggressive on climate change keeps Labor out of it, preserving their position, but will still ensure better action is taken. It will be as if the LNP don't exist the next few years. It's great.

I completely agree, and if Labor win, expect them to be a one term government, hounded out of office by a rabid media that treat every minor thing as an earth-shaking scandal.

Labor needs to go for the jugular with the rabid right wing in Australia, starting with a royal commission into the robodebt suicides and a federal corruption investigation committee.

I agree with this. But I do hope that enough positive change occurs that makes this stick for a little while longer

Albo needs to assert himself with the media thugs. It will be impossible otherwise.

    Yayayayaya Australia! 🥰🥳🥰🥳🥰🥳🥰🥳

  11. I really want to believe the libs are out, but I'm forever surprised by how selfishly people vote...and incorrectly so.

The whole trans in sport 'issue' is truly disgusting and completely absurd. The power they have to actually stir up fear of something that would rarely even occur, let alone actually be a real concern to anyone is very telling.

How can the issues that truly matter escape people's attention. So much so that Labor are paralysed and are not willing to really put themselves out there in fear of scaring off voters again. And if elected, will that paralysis continue in fear of being a one term government? How can society progress if this is the state of things?

I wish that the lies in politics and propaganda could be banned and controlled. If people actually understood the truth, the libs would never be in power and we would have a much more equal and civil society.

Have been so sick after my booster, body aches, headache, chills, hot flushes, nausea & extremely fatigued, feels like I have the flu, did anyone else have similar reactions to there booster?

Yes, the second and third Pfizer shots. I was delirious and in pain, and after the third one, once all that subsided, I was so fatigued I almost fainted. But fine about 36 hours after the shot.

Do we think he will leave quickly or drag it out ?

He will appeal in court I'm sure. And I heard this may take a while and he could still play in the meantime. But if upheld, he's not allowed back for 3 years.

Surely for the government to do this, they believe they have a solid case. Couldn't bear the disappointment and humiliation again!

Unvaccinated Djokovic will be allowed to play tennis in Australia :rotfl:

    This world is a joke.

He caught covid fucking around in Tokyo. Australian girls better beware there.

People are pissed! I wouldn't be surprised if he is booed on court... we're not a very forgiving people 😂

With any luck he'll catch it again and not be able to play!

...and just heard on the news that whilst he was given approval to play by the state of Victoria, the federal government, who have jurisdiction over international borders, may turn him away at the border if he can't provide appropriate evidence for the exemption. And apparently he's in transit now. This could get interesting :rotfl:
